Hey Gamers,

Unfortunately going pay-to-print on TAG is running into more snags than I can manage right now but one of these days it will be published and when I do finally get to that point I also have plans for at least one sequel…

On the matter of the BATTLE GATE expansions,
That too continues to run into problems (‘development hell’ as I’ve come to know it) so instead, as I said I may do in the last news post, I’ve decided to just published them here in .pdf form, available for free for anyone interested in playtesting:

(Also found on the GAMES page in the BATTLE GATE section under ‘free downloads’)
BATTLE GATE Treasure Cards Expansion Rules sheet (Playtest Version)
BATTLE GATE World Cards Expansion Rules sheet (Playtest Version)
BATTLE GATE Team Battle Expansion Rules sheet (Playtest Version)

HAVE FUN!
-Marc

P.S. The main thing I'm unsure of with the expansions here is whether or not the ability cost on Treasure cards is balanced; pretty sure everything else works (although of course please let me know if it doesn't!)

Hey Gamers,

So to update you on my current progress: there hasn't been much, however I do have an update about going 'pay-to-print' on The Adventurous Grimoire which I'll get to in a moment. First though, my apologies for not having the BATTLE GATE expansions playtested yet; life stuff has gotten in the way on many fronts but I am still committed to publishing those as soon as possible (whenever that happens - I'm not out of ideas yet). If nothing else I may just decide to publish the playtest versions and see if I can't get some feedback that way. Now for the T.A.G. update! I've finally given in and decided to go pay-to-print on this but as with my other projects this too has taken a bit of a pause, because life. Here's to hoping life cuts that crap out and lets me get back to making games...

-Marc

P.S. SPOILER ALERT: [The BATTLE GATE expansions are as follows: Treasure cards, World cards, and Team Battle rules]

Hey Gamers,

I am proud to finally bring you my first commercial game, BATTLE GATE! Available here on the ‘Games’ page, BATTLE GATE is a trading card game for 2-4 players using constructed decks that allows you to design your own cards with unique names, artwork, and stats. Also available in the same entry is a link for a PDF of the basic rules page that you can print out to test the game with proxy cards or just in case you want extra copies (the starter pack comes with one rules sheet). Currently this game only ships to the U.S. because the current estimates I have for international shipping costs are too high however there may still be things I haven’t tried yet so I’ll continue brainstorming.

BATTLE GATE Expansions:
Soon to follow will be three expansions for this game which players will be able to use in any game of BATTLE GATE either separately or in combination. One of these expansions will just be official rules for playing team battles of 4-9 players but the other two will include the release of two new types of cards which will be available in booster packs. Currently these expansions are in their first round of playtesting but I am very excited about them and will keep you updated as the process continues.

HAVE FUN!
-Marc

Hey Gamers,

My apologies for the lack of updates recently but fear not; in my absence I’ve been hard at work and at last I have some news for you:

I’m still trying to find a better way to fund a first printing run of The Adventurous Grimoire but as it stands it may still be a while before there’s any further progress on that front. Part of this also depends on the success of my other projects however, in addition to any fund raising campaigns I may (or may not) do in the future for T.A.G., so this brings me to my next update:

I’ve developed another game! This game is a unique trading card game inexpensive enough to produce that I was able to do so myself and now I’m currently in the final stages of getting it ready for sale here on the website. Since I don’t have many fans yet I’m sure copies will go slowly (if at all) but in the meantime when starter and booster packs become available I also plan to provide a free PDF of the rules page so you can print it out, make proxy cards, and test the game out at home (if you’re so inclined). I will be posting updates as things move forward so be sure to stay tuned for more!

Thanks to all of you who continue to show your support,

-Marc

Kickstarter

Hey Gamers,

The time is finally here! In order to fund the first printing (of first editions) of The Adventurous Grimoire I have decided to start a Kickstarter campaign which can be found at the link below. Available on the page (in the ‘samples’ section) is a link for a free download of the full book content in pdf form for you to preview. If you would like to see this game become a reality please help support the campaign!

Hey Gamers,

This coming weekend (May 15th-17th) I will be attending the second annual PDXAGE gaming convention. There I will have a developer’s table where you can playtest some of my games and I will also be speaking at three Table Talk discussions on topics for game developers (more information below).

Games
The Adventurous Grimoire
The first ever open world game in a book! Play is endless, diceless, and has both single player and unlimited multiplayer. All you need is a pencil.

Space Wizard
A free pen-and-paper multiplayer game that is sort of a cross between connect-the-dots and the stick-person wars you used to draw on binder paper. The rules are meant to be easy enough to memorize so you can play with friends on pieces of scrap paper when you’re bored. Players choose their own game piece to represent their character.

Table Talks
Basic Principals of Game Development (Saturday May 16th, 3-4pm)
Getting starting in game design? Already a developer but looking to branch out into other formats? Come join this Table Talk with local game developer Marc Wolff as he discusses some of the basic principles of game design for both familiar and innovative formats to help you with your next project.

Copyrighting content + Printing (Saturday May 16th, 5-6pm)
Come join local game developer Marc Wolff as he discusses the grueling and often torturous process of getting a game ‘shelf-ready’. While not licensed in any way to give legal advice Marc is nonetheless happy to share his experience with you and discuss the dark and mysterious world of self-publishing - which is actually really fun, especially the printing bit.

World Building (Saturday May 16th, 7-8pm)
From fantasy to science fiction and everywhere in between, world building is the process of creating a setting for things to happen. Whether it’s for a game or a story or something else entirely, it can be as simple as two stick figures in an infinite limbo or as complicated as the rich and awe inspiring world of Tolkien’s Arda. To find out more about what this is and how to do it, or just simply to talk shop, come join local game developer Marc Wolff at this Table Talk discussion on World Building.
